FAQ

  • HOW MUCH DOES A NEW CONCRETE POOL COST?

This is a very hard question to answer, it is a bit like asking “how much does a car cost?”

There are so many variables to be considered when to determining the cost of a new pool build.

Site access, additional permissions, pool size and shape, premium equipment, heating, water features, finishes are all things that need to be taken in to consideration before providing you with a quote.

Keep in mind that you will still legally require pool fencing and you will probably require some Paving/Concrete/landscaping to finish off your pool area.

KB Pools can work with you to seamlessly complete the whole job so that you don’t have to co-ordinate different trades after your pool is built.

  • I HAVE AN EASEMENT ON MY PROPERTY, CAN I STILL HAVE A POOL?

Yes! We build pre-fabricated pools right here at our warehouse in Cairns that can be placed in or above ground and can even be placed on easements. They are considered transportable and can be moved with a crane if the need ever arises.

  • HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO BUILD A POOL FROM THE TIME WE SIGN CONTRACTS TO COMPLETION?

Council documentation and permits generally take 1 week to be approved and then construction takes around 8-10 weeks for a standard in-ground pool. This is different for every project, so it would be best to speak to us about your specific timeline or any required timeframes if the pool construction is happening simultaneously with a new house being built of other project.

  • CAN I BUILD A POOL ON SLOPING LAND?

Yes, sloping land makes for some of the most picturesque swimming pools we have had the pleasure of building. They can be built to be flush with the land at the highest point and sticking out of the ground where the land slopes away. If the freestanding sides are over 1.2m high and are deemed non-climbable, they act as the pool fence, therefore, do not need to be fenced. This can have stunning results if you have a beautiful backdrop such as mountains, rainforest or a view over the city or ocean.

  • I WANT A SWIMMING POOL BUT I AM STUCK FOR IDEAS. WHAT SHOULD I DO?

There are so many elements to building a swimming pool and it can be very difficult to explain exactly what you like and don’t like.

We suggest and appreciate when clients gather a scrapbook or folder with pictures of other swimming pools and the features that they like.

We can then work with you to design a swimming pool suited to your taste and budget.

Some places to get great inspiration for your new pool include: google image searches, pool and spa magazines, pinterest or Instagram. The possibilities are endless and can really help you to decide how you want your pool to look and function.

  • DO I NEED TO APPLY FOR COUNCIL APPROVAL?

KB Pools can organise all required permits and documentation for you. We work closely and frequently with the council and independent assessors to get your approval processed very quickly.

  • ARE CONCRETE POOLS BETTER THAN FIBREGLASS?

Concrete pools are designed to suit your ideas and yard requirements, we design your pool the way you want and need it. Whereas a fibreglass pool comes in only selected shapes and sizes and generally have a shorter life span. If you want to add more market value to your home, a concrete pool is the right choice.

  • MY YARD IS SMALL, CAN I STILL PUT IN A POOL?

With block sizes becoming smaller and smaller, you may find yourself needing a Cairns pool builder who can design a bespoke pool and surrounding area to suit a small area. Our professional team at KB Pools Cairns are highly experienced in designing concrete pools and spas with limited space. Contact us today and organise your free quote.

  • IS IT BETTER TO HAVE A CHLORINE POOL OR A SALT POOL?

Salt water pools have a more expensive start up cost but are usually the best choice. Salt water is less irritating for your eyes and skin and your bathers won’t deteriorate or fade. Salt water pools have a special chemical dosing system which produce chlorine. Our salt water pool owners are very happy with their choice of salt water pools over chlorine pools.

Keep in mind when choosing a salt water option you will need to ensure your coping tiles and lighting is salt resistant.

  • WILL I NEED A POOL FENCE?

Yes, a pool must have a fence or barrier around it. There are some exceptions and clauses that allow non climbable surfaces to be used as part of the pool fence. These can include boundary fences, solid walls on a house or shed, or even an exposed outer surface of a swimming pool, provided that it is over 1.2 metres high. These are obviously subject to so many factors and need to be designed to suit each new pool. KB Pools can help you to design your pool fencing so that it complements and gives you the most user friendly area to compliment your new pool.
